After taking charge as the Union minister for electronics and information technology in the third Narendra Modi-led Cabinet, Ashwini Vaishnaw on June 11 said that the government will work towards ensuring that India takes the lead in sectors such as semiconductors, telecom and manufacturing.
In the new Cabinet, Vaishnaw has retained the electronics and IT portfolio, along with railways. He has additionally been given the charge of information and broadcasting.
“We have to keep building so that India can stand equal with other counties when it comes to technology,” he said in his address to the media at the MeitY headquarters Electronics Niketan.
Vaishnaw said that in the last 10 years, PM Modi has brought change in the lives of people with the help of Digital India, specifically through initiatives such as Jan Dhan Account and Aadhaar.
“The Digital India ecosystem that has been developed has helped citizens immensely. Now that citizens have blessed Modiji with votes, and opportunity to serve them for the third time, we will working with the aim of bringing in change in the lives of ordinary citizens,” he said.
