Apple CEO Tim Cook has firmly denied speculation that he is planning to step back, calling such claims “a rumour” and stressing that he remains deeply committed to the company.
Speaking in a television interview with Michael Strahan on ABC News, Cook said he has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. “No, I didn’t say that. I haven’t said that. That’s a rumour going around,” he said when asked about reports suggesting he might step back from his role.
Cook, who has spent nearly three decades at Apple, added that his connection to the company remains strong. “I love what I do deeply. 28 years ago, I walked into Apple, and I’ve loved every day of it since,” he said. “I can’t imagine life without Apple.”
The remarks come amid Apple’s 50th anniversary celebrations, with Cook using the opportunity to reflect on the company’s broader impact. He pointed to milestones such as reshaping the music industry, redefining smartphones, advancing creative tools, and introducing health-focused features through devices like the Apple Watch.
On artificial intelligence, Cook struck a measured tone, describing the technology as inherently neutral. He emphasised that its impact depends on how it is developed and used, while highlighting Apple’s approach of processing as much data as possible on-device, backed by its Private Cloud Compute system for more complex tasks.
Cook also touched on Apple’s expanding investment in the United States, saying the company plans to spend $600 billion over the next four years. This includes scaling domestic manufacturing of components such as iPhone glass and semiconductors, with output intended for global supply.
When asked about potential tariff refunds following a recent US Supreme Court ruling that deemed certain tariffs illegal, Cook said Apple is monitoring the situation and will decide its next steps based on how the courts proceed.
Addressing criticism around his interactions with political leaders, Cook reiterated that his focus remains on policy rather than politics. He said maintaining access to decision-makers is important for discussing issues that affect the business.
For now, however, Cook made one thing clear: he isn’t going anywhere.
