Apple CEO Tim Cook has hinted at an upcoming product launch this week. Cook shared a teaser video on X with the message: “There’s something in the Air.” The cryptic statement hints that Apple is preparing to unveil a new MacBook Air, possibly powered by its next-generation M4 chip. Rumours have been rife about the launch of the M4 MacBook Air. A recent Bloomberg report suggested that the new MacBook Air could arrive as soon as this week. Now, Cook’s post does suggest that the new Apple product could be the MacBook Air.
M4 MacBook Air: What to expect
The updated MacBook Air is expected to maintain the 13-inch and 15-inch designs of its predecessor while bringing significant performance improvements. The M4 chip is rumoured to introduce faster memory bandwidth, two additional CPU cores, and improved efficiency. Apple may also increase the RAM ceiling to 32GB, up from the current 24GB limit, offering better multitasking capabilities.
Another key upgrade could be broader external display support. While the current M3 MacBook Air can power two external monitors only when its lid is closed, the M4 version is expected to support two external displays while still using the built-in screen—a feature previously reserved for MacBook Pro models. Additionally, a 12MP Center Stage camera may enhance video calls, bringing the MacBook Air closer in line with Apple’s premium lineup.
Could it be an iPad Air?
Apple is also rumoured to be preparing a new iPad Air for launch this spring. While initial reports suggested the M4 MacBook Air would arrive first, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has hinted that Apple could unveil both devices simultaneously—especially as iPad Air inventory continues to dwindle at major retailers. So, it is possible that Apple could unveil the MacBook Air and the iPad Air.
