APAAR ID

The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, better known as the APAAR ID, is India’s unified academic identifier designed to store a student’s educational records from pre-primary to higher education. Managed by the Ministry of Education, this 12-digit ID is securely linked to DigiLocker and helps parents maintain all school-related documentation in one place. If you’re planning to create an APAAR ID for your child, here’s everything you need to know.

What is APAAR ID?

The APAAR ID acts as a lifelong digital academic identity. It centralises key student information — marksheets, transfer certificates, achievements, and demographic details — and helps streamline admissions, transfers, and documentation. Since the government adds the APAAR ID directly to a student’s DigiLocker account, it becomes easily accessible on both the web and the mobile app.

Pre-requisites

The child’s name in UDISE+ school records must match the name on their Aadhaar.

The student must have a Permanent Education Number (PEN), which schools generally help generate.

These two details are mandatory for creating an APAAR ID.

How to apply for APAAR ID

The APAAR ID is issued through schools, which handle the verification and authentication process. Here are the steps:

1. School verification

Parents must visit their child’s school, where demographic and academic details are verified using the UDISE+ database. This ensures accuracy before the ID is generated.

2. Parental consent

Since APAAR is linked to Aadhaar, the school will provide a consent form. Parents must approve the creation of the ID, especially if the student is a minor.

3. Identity authentication

Schools authenticate the student’s identity using official records already available with them. No separate Aadhaar biometric process is required for parents.

4. APAAR ID creation

Once verification and consent are complete, the APAAR ID is created by the system and linked to the student’s profile.

How to access APAAR ID

According to the official website, once generated, the APAAR ID is automatically added to the student’s DigiLocker account. Parents or students can log in using their mobile number or Aadhaar-linked account to view and download the APAAR card.

DigiLocker is available on the web and through Android and iOS apps, making the APAAR ID easy to access anytime.

The APAAR ID initiative is part of India’s push toward digitised academic records under the National Education Policy. For parents, it simplifies documentation and ensures their child’s educational journey stays organised in one secure digital space.
