Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to bring one of the biggest upgrades fans have asked for: a larger battery. While the Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 5,000mAh unit, early reports now suggest that the S26 Ultra may cross this capacity, potentially offering longer screen-on time and improved endurance, especially with upcoming AI features expected to run natively on the device. The company is yet to confirm the specifications, but the battery upgrade has become one of the most discussed early developments around the flagship.
Battery upgrade
According to the latest information, Samsung is testing battery packs that exceed 5,000mAh for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The exact capacity is not confirmed, but reports indicate that Samsung is evaluating multiple prototypes with higher density cells. If finalised, this will mark the first increase in Ultra-series battery capacity since 2021.
The shift is likely aimed at supporting expanded on-device AI functions, improved cooling, and higher-efficiency displays expected on the next-generation model. The S26 Ultra may also switch to a new stacked battery design, which allows more capacity without increasing physical volume. Samsung is reportedly exploring these options as part of its long-term plan to optimise power management across its flagship series.
Other expected specifications
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is also rumoured to include display and camera refinements. Early leaks suggest a brighter AMOLED panel, reduced bezels, and camera improvements focused on low-light imaging and zoom performance.
AI-backed features under Galaxy AI are also expected to expand, following the company’s push for on-device and hybrid AI processing. With Qualcomm and Samsung working on newer 3nm chipsets, the S26 Ultra may benefit from performance enhancements while maintaining power efficiency to complement the larger battery.
Launch details
Samsung typically launches its Ultra models in January, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to follow the same timeline in early 2026. More details should surface as testing progresses and certification listings begin to appear.
