Perplexity has launched Labs, a new feature aimed at turbocharging project execution for its Pro subscribers. While Perplexity’s core offering has long been about delivering fast, accurate answers via its Search and Deep Research tools, Labs, as per the company, takes things several steps further. The core functionality of Labs, as per a blog post by the company, is to transform ideas into tangible deliverables like reports, dashboards, spreadsheets, and even simple web apps.
Unlike traditional AI assistants that stop at giving information, Labs goes hands-on. It performs self-guided work over a 10-minute cycle, utilising tools like web browsing, code execution, and asset generation. The result: a comprehensive output that once required multiple tools and skillsets — now bundled into a single workflow, said the company in a blog post.
Whether you’re crafting a marketing plan, analyzing financial data, or even planning meals for the week, Labs can generate and organise everything from charts and CSVs to code and mini apps. All created files are housed neatly in an Assets tab, while interactive tools like dashboards or slideshows appear in a dedicated App tab.
Labs also writes and runs code on the fly, making it possible to manipulate data, build visualisations, and structure documents without opening a second tool. This approach positions Labs as a virtual project team — fast, capable, and deeply integrated.
While Deep Research (now renamed simply Research) still serves as the go-to for quick, in-depth analysis, Labs is meant for bigger tasks requiring extended effort. Perplexity says this launch marks a shift from passive inquiry to active creation — turning curiosity into outcomes.
Labs is rolling out now to Pro subscribers via the mode selector on Web and mobile apps, with desktop versions for Mac and Windows coming soon.
