Katelyn Peterson was a salesperson but it wasn't something she was passionate about. She loved writing, especially when it meant helping people "put their heart into words". So, she decided to quit her job and follow her passion. She began to write wedding vows for people and now, it has turned into a full-fledged business with the 37-year-old making Rs 7 lakh a month from it.

“I got into this business to help people put their heart into words,” Peterson, the founder and CEO of Wedding Words, said in an interview with CNBC Make It.

Since launching the company eight years ago, she has written over 700 speeches for brides, grooms, family members and bridal party guests. Her process includes video calls to understand the client’s story, followed by revisions and delivery coaching.

Peterson’s inspiration came in 2017 when she helped her father rewrite her grandfather’s eulogy.

“He said, ‘This is exactly what I wanted to say. I just didn’t know how to put it into words,’” she recalled. She started out by offering free services in exchange for testimonials. Today, she charges Rs 83,000 ($999) for full speech-writing and Rs 41,000 ($499) for editing sessions.

Responding to a question on the impact of AI on her business, Peterson told the publication that some of her competitors are churning out content at a rapid rate using AI tools but she is less concerned about AI impacting Wedding Words’ long term revenue.

Peterson says her clients value emotional authenticity and human storytelling — something she believes AI can’t replicate.

“The people that are happy using AI tools to write their wedding speech are not my clients,” she said. “My clients value human storytelling. No matter what changes in the technical world, there is still a need for human touch and the human heart, and I don’t think that that’s ever gonna go away."

Wedding Words has been profitable since day one and is now expanding, with Peterson hiring full-time writers to meet growing demand, CNBC Make It reported.
