The internet can’t get enough of Google Gemini’s “Nano Banana” saree trend. In just a few clicks, users are transforming selfies into 90s Bollywood-style portraits—complete with chiffon sarees floating in the wind, soft golden-hour lighting, and that unmistakable grainy retro look. Instagram feeds are now filled with polka dots, black party wear, and delicate floral sarees straight out of a Sridevi music video.
But while the results look stunning when done right, many edits go hilariously wrong. Distorted faces, mismatched backgrounds, or oddly shaped sarees are common side effects of vague or overloaded prompts. If you want your AI saree portrait to look cinematic instead of chaotic, here are the mistakes to avoid.
Pick the correct photoStart with the right photo. Nano Banana works best with sharp, solo selfies where your face is clearly visible. Group photos or blurry images confuse the AI, leading to warped results.
Prompts matter. A lot.Be specific—but not too specific. A vague prompt like “make me look like a Bollywood actress” won’t cut it. Instead, describe the saree colour, fabric, lighting style, and background. At the same time, don’t overload the AI with paragraphs of detail. Three or four strong cues—say “red chiffon saree, retro film backdrop, golden light”—are usually enough.
All about detailsDon’t forget the backdrop. A saree portrait without a dramatic setting feels incomplete. Think vintage gardens, movie sets, or sunset skies to match the 90s vibe. Leaving it blank often results in bland or mismatched scenes.
Guide the AILock in your face. If you don’t tell the AI to “keep facial features consistent,” you risk ending up with a portrait that looks more like a stranger than you.
If done carefully, Nano Banana’s saree edits can be equal parts nostalgic and glamorous—proof that AI, when handled right, can recreate a Bollywood dream.
