Windows Recall artificial intelligence (AI) feature, which was initially launched in May this year, had been postponed indefinitely by Microsoft, due to increased security and privacy concerns. Recall is similar to Pixel Screenshots, where your saved screenshots or family pictures become a searchable timeline of what you’ve done on your device, with a glance-like setup.
It also lets you revisit products, emails, documents, or chats on your screen. The feature’s perks are easy to see, especially for those who spend long hours on their PC and want summarized information on all their work-related tabs. However, a massive record of everything you did on your PC represented an unnecessary privacy liability, and therefore Microsoft had to turn this feature off by default in June.
But in a surprising turn of events, Microsoft via a new blog post announced that "Recall will be available to Windows Insiders starting in October," with more details to come at a later date. The tech giant has also assured that user’s security is their top priority and additional details will be provided closer to its official release.
Microsoft has still not announced plans to bring Recall to other Windows PCs, which use the basic version of Copilot. Even when it fully rolls out, where it could still be an opt-in toggle, with its current availability only on Copilot+ PCs, with users using the Windows 11 Insider program builds.
