As the anticipation builds ahead of Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2025 event, which is just days away now, rumours about the expected announcements are gaining momentum. A new report suggests that iOS 19, Apple's upcoming operating system (OS) scheduled to be introduced at WWDC, will include support for a new functionality that makes transferring an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android smartphone a quicker process.
eSIM transfers from iPhone to Android to be more streamlined
According to a report by Android Authority, a new feature was discovered in Google's SIM Manager app after the latest Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update, which includes strings referencing iOS 19’s support for wireless eSIM transfers to Android. The report adds that a new page dubbed ‘Transfer to Android’ will be added to the Settings page.
This feature will reportedly mirror Apple’s current eSIM Quick Transfer functionality and enable users to switch eSIMs between iPhones and Android smartphones. At the moment, iPhones only offer a ‘Transfer or Reset iPhone’ option, which is limited to switching eSIM between Apple devices. It will involve scanning a QR code displayed on the Android device, similar to how eSIMs are transferred between Android phones currently.
If the process does not go through with scanning a QR code, Apple could implement a session ID and a Passcode to connect two smartphones, which the iPhone would generate. More details regarding this feature can be expected at the WWDC 2025 event, which is scheduled to begin on June 9.
