Ahead of International Women’s Day, Tinder has introduced ‘Her New Dating Rulebook’, highlighting how young women in India are redefining modern relationships. The new dating trends emphasize respect over outdated gender roles, safety as a priority, and deeper compatibility over superficial attraction.

A recent survey by Tinder found that 44% of young female users in India are excited about meeting new people, with 38% looking for new experiences. The traditional expectation of men paying for dates is fading, with only 23% of women considering it a must. Instead, mutual respect and shared values are shaping modern dating.

Respect over outdated gender roles

According to Tinder’s survey, 51% of young women believe modern chivalry is about keeping promises, such as showing up on time or following through on a plan. 36% value full attention on a date over symbolic gestures like opening doors.

While 31% expect basic respect for all genders, 36% believe a truly supportive partner encourages their career ambitions. This shift marks a move away from traditional roles toward relationship equality and genuine support.

Safety as a standard

Safety remains a top priority, with more than half of young female users saying they would unmatch if they receive inappropriate messages. Tinder’s AI-powered features, such as ‘Are You Sure?’ and ‘Does This Bother You?’, help prevent and report unwanted interactions.

Women also value profile authenticity, with 44% prioritizing verified profiles. Additionally, 53% demand clear profile pictures, and over a third reject shirtless mirror selfies. 50% consider a post-date check-in a sign of genuine care.

Connection and compatibility

Women on Tinder are seeking more than just appearances. 47% consider incomplete profiles a major red flag, preferring detailed bios that reflect real interests. 37% favor profiles with multiple photos, and 35% value shared lifestyles and interests. Additionally, 41% dislike bios filled with clichés, preferring originality and authenticity.

With safety, respect, and meaningful connections shaping dating norms, Tinder’s latest insights reflect a shift toward relationships built on equality, genuine effort, and personal choice.
