Instagram adds real-time Hindi translation and dubbing to Reels, here’s how to use it

Instagram has expanded the real-time translation feature to India. The feature supports Hindi language and enables users to translate English content into Hindi, and creators can now choose to dub, translate and lip-sync their content using the app without requiring re-recording everything using Meta AI.

To make it more seamless, the Meta-owned social media platform has also added Hindi Dub and lip-sync features for creators using Meta AI. The rollout comes as part of Meta’s global effort to make content accessible in multiple languages and bridge communication barriers between creators and viewers.

The new translation tool, available on both Instagram and Facebook, uses Meta AI to automatically translate Reels while mimicking the creator’s original voice tone for authenticity. Creators can also enable lip-syncing, which aligns translated audio with mouth movements for a natural viewing experience.

With this update, users can now enjoy Reels from around the world without language limitations. Hindi joins English, Spanish, and Portuguese as supported languages, with more options expected to roll out soon.

The AI-powered dubbing and translation system has been designed based on creator feedback. According to Meta, this feature aims to help creators grow their audiences by making their content accessible across some of the platform’s largest Reels markets, including India.

How to translate Reels

The translation process is automatic and free for eligible creators. On Instagram, all public accounts in regions where Meta AI is available can use it, while on Facebook, creators with over 1,000 followers can access the tool.

Viewers can manage their preferences through the three-dot settings menu under the “Audio and Language” section. Here, users can choose to turn translations on or off, or select “Don’t translate” to view content in its original language. Each translated reel carries a “Translated with Meta AI” label for transparency.
