Skype is shutting down in May 2025, and Microsoft is moving everyone to Teams. If you’re worried about losing your chats and contacts, don’t be—Microsoft has made it simple. Here’s what you need to do.
–First, download Microsoft Teams. Go to the Microsoft Teams website and choose the version that works for your device—Windows, Mac, Android, or iOS. Once it’s downloaded, open the file and follow the instructions to install it. It only takes a few minutes.
–Next, sign in to Teams using your Skype details. Open the Teams app and click “Sign in.” Enter the same username and password you use for Skype. If your Skype account is linked to a Microsoft account, Teams will recognize it automatically. If you can’t remember your password, click “Forgot Password” and follow the steps to reset it.
–Once you’re logged in, Teams will sync your Skype chats and contacts automatically. You don’t have to move anything yourself. Just go to the Chat section, and you should see all your old conversations. If something is missing, use the search bar to find specific contacts or messages. Sometimes, syncing takes a little time, so if your chats don’t appear immediately, check back in a few minutes.
–Now you’re ready to use Teams! You can send messages, make voice and video calls, and continue your conversations just like on Skype. If some of your friends are still on Skype, don’t worry—Teams and Skype users can still chat and call each other during the transition.
If you want to keep a backup of your Skype chats, you can download them. Visit the Skype Export page, sign in, and request a copy of your chat history. When the file is ready, download it and save it for future reference.
