Aadhaar, one of the most essential documents for Indian citizens, is now easier to access through WhatsApp. The Government of India has enabled Aadhaar downloads via the official MyGov Helpdesk chatbot, making the process simpler and more convenient.
Previously, Aadhaar cards could be retrieved through platforms such as DigiLocker or the UIDAI portal. With this new integration, users can securely download Aadhaar and other linked documents directly within WhatsApp without installing additional applications.
To use the service, individuals need a mobile number registered with Aadhaar and an active DigiLocker account. The MyGov Helpdesk WhatsApp number, +91-9013151515, must also be saved in contacts.
The process begins by starting a chat with the helpdesk and typing a greeting such as “Hi” or “Namaste.” Users then select DigiLocker services, confirm their account, and enter their 12-digit Aadhaar number. An OTP is sent to the registered mobile number for authentication. Once verified, the chatbot provides a list of available documents. By selecting Aadhaar, the card is delivered in PDF format within WhatsApp.
Only one document can be downloaded at a time, and documents must already be linked in DigiLocker. If Aadhaar is not connected, it can be updated via the DigiLocker website or app before accessing it on WhatsApp.
This new feature makes Aadhaar access faster, particularly for those who rely on WhatsApp for daily communication. It also ensures official documents are available securely without navigating multiple apps.
