How to block spam calls on Samsung, OnePlus and other popular Android smartphones

If you are tired of spam calls, here are the steps you need to follow to block them.

The number of spam calls have grown multifold over the years and almost every day get on people’s nerves. Smartphone users these days receive several calls from telemarketers, pre-recorded calls, etc. trying to sell insurance, give loan against your car and even try to sell property, offering jobs -- the list is long.

But that’s not it, the biggest challenge is that these calls have become more complicated to identify as spammers keep changing the phone numbers and have become smarter.

Having said that, all Android devices come with built-in ways to block spam calls and in this guide, we will tell you how to do it based on the phone you have.

Samsung Galaxy smartphones

Open the “Phone” app and tap on three dots at the top-right corner. Select Block numbers option and enable “Block calls from unknown numbers”.

Alternatively, you can choose “Black spam and scam calls” option and turn on the toggle.

You can also add phone numbers manually to block calls.

OnePlus smartphones

OnePlus phones come with Google Dialer, and it allows users to block calls. To do this, open “Phone” app and tap on three dots at the top right corner and select “Settings --> Call ID and spam --> Enable filter spam calls.

Oppo, Vivo, iQoo and Realme smartphones

Phones from Oppo, Vivo and Realme also come with built-in Google Dialer app. To block spam calls open Phone app --> “Settings --> Call ID and spam --> Enable filter spam calls.

Xiaomi and Poco smartphones

Smartphones from Xiaomi and Poco come with HyperOS. The dialer app comes with built-in spam protection feature. To enable it open Phone app --> Three dots --> Settings --> Caller ID and spam --> Enable the toggle --> Then enable Filter spam calls option.

Alternative methods

Enable DND for your number

If you are still getting spam calls, then you can enable Do Not Disturn (DND) service on your number. Here’s how it's done.

Simply send an SMS to 1909 with “START 0”

Use TRAI’s DND app

To prevent users from receiving spam calls, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has an app called TRAI DND. The app is available on Google Play Store.
