CD Projekt RED has announced the release date for Cyberpunk 2077’s PlayStation 5 Pro update. The PS5 Pro update for the open-world RPG arrives on April 8, 2026, the Polish developer announced. Here is how the PS5 Pro update is expected to enhance the Cyberpunk 2077 experience for players.

According to the developers, the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscales each pixel in Cyberpunk 2077 using advanced artificial intelligence, which results in “every inch of Night City—every thermal katana, every gonk on the street, every supercharged sports car—coming to life.”

Let’s come to the ray tracing enhancements. With the PlayStation 5 Pro Update, the developers have implemented BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy) support to implement ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections in the open-world game.

The PS5 Pro update adds three distinct PlayStation 5 Pro modes for Cyberpunk 2077: Ray Tracing Pro, Ray Tracing and Performance modes.

Ray Tracing Pro is claimed to deliver “the most visually advanced version of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5 Pro.” With this mode, the ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, skylight, shadows and emissive lighting will always be active; the developers claim that with Ray Tracing Pro, Cyberpunk 2077 can get “40 frames per second on variable refresh rate-enabled displays or 30 frames per second otherwise.”

Sitting at the other extreme, the Performance mode aims to achieve the highest possible frame rate. On displays with VRR, Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5 Pro can reach up to 90 fps while maintaining high image fidelity, claimed the developers.

The Ray Tracing mode sits between the Ray Tracing Pro and Performance modes. Featuring select ray tracing enhancements, the mode can help the game achieve 60 frames per second, claimed the developers.
