Helldivers 2: New enemies

The March 20 Helldivers 2 update adds new enemies in the form of Illuminate Piloted Constructs, a new variant of the Watcher called “Obtruder”, a new sub-faction of Illuminate Appropriators and the Illuminate Exostorms.

The Illuminate Piloted Constructs include the Veracitor and the Gatekeeper. While the Veracitor is a close-quarters combat specialist, the Gatekeeper engages targets from afar. The Obtruder “inserts itself where it is not wanted,” developer Arrowhead Studios said in a post on Steam.

The Illuminate Appropriators “field only Illuminate units, supported by a variety of constructs---piloted and otherwise.” Protected with shields, they arrive in Illuminate Fleets, and in hordes of Fleshmobs and Voteless.

The Illuminate Exostorms are planet-wide storms that bring high-intensity winds and lightning strikes; they can be very dangerous to those who dive to the planet’s surface. The strength of the Exostorm varies, and higher-class storms pose more danger to the braves diving down. The planets struck by the Illuminate Exostorms will be visible on the Galactic Map.

New Helldivers 2 Mission: Destroy Exospire

“The powerful storms seem to originate from Illuminate technology in the form of Exospires. Work with your squad to destroy the Exospires and clear the storm looming over the region,” the developers said in the post.

The Exospire comes protected by a force shield. To deactivate the shield, your squad must first locate the access nodes that connect to the subterranean shield generators. Then, overload the nodes with an electrical surge to power down the force shield. Once the force shield is down, enter the Exospire’s chamber and destroy its core by eliminating the Dark Fluid cells.

The developers advise Helldivers 2 players to use the Entrenched Division Premium Warbond for the Destroy Exospire mission. “Flame, gas, or the safe haven of a freshly-dug trench are the new tactics,” they added.
