Google set to roll out audio emojis for Android phones

Emojis were first introduced in 1997, and it was originally a simple string of ASCII text morphed into text codes. Over the years emojis have been officially incorporated into various websites, social media apps, and for communication. There are more than 3500 emojis officially, and the number is growing with every passing year.

According to 9to5 Google, Google is now rolling out a feature called Audio Emoji in its native Phone app. The report states that there are six default Audio Emoji sounds as well and shows them in action with a video. Each one has an animation attached as well with a particular sound effect.

During a call, users can simply choose from six emoji options, which include clapping, laughter, a party horn, crying, a poop emoji, and a drum emoji. The Google Phone app will create a short animation, and then both you and the person you're talking to will hear a corresponding sound effect.

It is currently available in the latest beta update (v128.0.628175044-public beta), where on the Settings page, we can find a new Audio Emoji section. Once it’s enabled, just call someone and you should see a shortcut appear for Audio Emoji on the call screen. You can tap it when on the call to pick an emoji that will then play sound both ways.

However, there is no clarity as of yet about its global rollout and when will this feature be available in the stable version of the Phone app. Not all beta features see the light of the day but audio emojis — being high on fun quotient — might just roll out in the next few weeks.
