Google’s Gemini AI can now schedule Google Calendar meetings directly from Gmail

Google has introduced a Gemini-powered scheduling tool that allows Gmail users to automatically find and propose meeting times using AI-driven context from emails and Google Calendar data. The feature marks a deeper integration of Gemini into Google Workspace, reinforcing Google’s push toward AI-first productivity tools.

Google has rolled out a new Gemini-powered feature designed to make meeting scheduling faster and smarter for Gmail users. The new ‘Help me schedule’ option integrates directly with Google Calendar and uses Gemini AI to suggest ideal meeting times based on your calendar availability and the email context. The feature is aimed at simplifying one-on-one meeting coordination without the need for third-party scheduling apps.

When composing an email in Gmail, users will now see a ‘Help me schedule’ button below the message box. Clicking it opens a list of available time slots pulled from your Google Calendar. You can edit or remove any suggested slots before inserting them into the email. Once the recipient picks a preferred time, the meeting is automatically booked on both participants’ calendars. This eliminates the usual back-and-forth exchange of messages to finalise a time.

What sets Google’s tool apart is how it interprets the conversation using AI. For example, if the email mentions “let’s do a 30-minute chat next week,” Gemini will only suggest half-hour slots that match that timeframe and fit both schedules before the end of the week. This contextual understanding gives Google’s assistant an edge over typical meeting tools that rely solely on static calendar data.

The company has clarified that the feature currently supports only one-on-one meetings and is not yet equipped for group or multi-participant scheduling. However, it’s a strong step toward fully intelligent scheduling within Gmail and Calendar.

This update comes as part of a larger wave of AI upgrades across Google Workspace. The company has been integrating Gemini into more products to streamline workflows and enhance productivity. Some of the other updates include new Gemini features in Google Slides, a fresh image editing model called Nano Banana, improved AI-driven video tools in Google Vids, new NotebookLM formats, and the ability to share custom AI assistants known as Gems with team members.

While there are several established scheduling tools in the market such as Calendly, Doodle, Zoom Scheduler, and HubSpot Meeting Links, Google’s approach stands out for its native integration and deeper understanding of context. By combining Gmail’s email cues with Calendar data, it aims to eliminate friction and make scheduling a seamless part of communication rather than a separate task.

Google had previously offered a manual appointment scheduling feature within Calendar, but it lacked Gmail integration and AI support. With Gemini now in the loop, scheduling becomes intuitive and personalised, reflecting Google’s broader shift toward AI-powered productivity across its ecosystem.

In a related update, Google also announced that reminders created in Google Keep will now automatically sync with Google Tasks, bringing more consistency to how users manage to-do lists and reminders across Workspace apps.
