Google has announced the release of Android 16 Beta 3, and revealed that the version has reached Platform Stability. This means that app-facing behaviors are finalized, enabling developers to confidently update their applications ahead of the official Android 16 launch.
Key features in Android 16 Beta 3
Auracast Broadcast Audio Support
Pixel 9 devices running Android 16 Beta now support Auracast broadcast audio with compatible LE Audio hearing aids. This allows users to receive direct audio streams from public venues such as airports, concerts, and classrooms, enhancing the audio accessibility experience.
Outline Text for Enhanced Contrast
Addressing the needs of users with low vision, Android 16 Beta 3 introduces outline text, which replaces the previous high contrast text feature. This enables a larger contrasting area around text, significantly improving legibility. New AccessibilityManager APIs are also included, allowing applications to detect or register listeners to determine if this mode is enabled, ensuring a consistent visual experience across apps, said Google.
Local Network Protection Testing
The beta introduces the ability to test the forthcoming Local Network Protection (LNP) feature, aimed at providing users with greater control over which applications can access devices on their local network.
With the platform now stable, Google said developers are encouraged to thoroughly test their applications for compatibility and integrate any necessary updates. Developers can access the beta through the Android Beta Program or by downloading the update manually.
Google emphasizes that feedback from the developer community is crucial during this phase to address any issues and refine the platform further.
