Improving the search feature on its Photos app, Google has announced new features to improve the search experience. The new Google Photos feature now allows users to be more descriptive with their search queries instead of just typing the person's name, place, date, with the new Gemini-powered Ask Photos tool.

Ask Photos tool lets users be more descriptive with their search on the Photos app. With the new AI-powered tool, Google Photos now allows users to search using more detailed and descriptive queries. Instead of simple keywords, users can search using natural language such as “Kayaking on a lake surrounded by mountains” or “Emma painting in the backyard.” This helps refine search results and provides more accurate outcomes.

Users can also sort search results by date or relevance, which offers more control over how they locate specific images.

Early Access for Ask Photos tool
Google has currently rolling out the Ask Photos feature to select users in US as of now via Google Labs in early access. The improved search feature is available in English for Android and iOS users and will be expanded to additional languages soon.

To get the feature, users need to enroll into the early access program for Ask Photo via Google Labs.

Also, the company is expected to expand the Ask Photos tool to more regions in the coming months.

Data Privacy and Security
Google has also highlighted the data privacy concerns over the Ask Photos tool. The company has mentioned that users' data is completely secure, and it won’t be used for advertising purposes. However, user-entered queries may get reviewed to improve the feature, however, they are disconnected from users account to maintain account privacy and data protection.
