The Google Maps app on the iPhone will now look less cluttered and has a cleaner look, thanks to the new Google Maps update in the form of the bottom bar redesign. The Google Maps bottom bar redesign was rolled out for Android in July and now it has come to iOS with version 6.129.1 of the Google Maps app.
The Google Maps bottom bar redesign for iOS reduces the bottom tabs from five to three. The earlier version of Google Maps on iOS had 'Explore', 'Go', 'Saved', 'Contribute' and 'Updates' tabs.
With the Google Maps update version 6.129.1, ‘Explore’, ‘You’ and ‘Contribute’ are the three tabs that stay while ‘Go’ has been renamed to ‘Saved trips’ and can be accessed by tapping on ‘You’. Fewer tabs in the Google Maps app make for a cleaner look on the iPhone.
The Contribute tab in Google Maps helps you add your contributions about a certain place or road in the form of reviews, photos and even suggesting edits. You can submit corrections regarding addresses, places and roads to Google through the Contribute tab.
The Contribute tab lets you add new places to Google Maps and also add more details about it. For instance, if you visit a restaurant, you can share your experiences publicly by uploading photos and videos, adding the names of dishes to your uploaded photos and rating the restaurant.
The Google Maps app displays the views your contributions got and the impact of the contributions. The Contribute tab also allows you to manage your Google Maps profile.
