Google has announced that its Gemini AI assistant is coming to televisions, beginning with the TCL QM9K series. The rollout will gradually expand to other devices, bringing conversational AI to over 300 million active Google TV and Android TV OS-powered devices worldwide.
The company explained that Gemini on Google TV will allow users to engage in natural conversations with their television, offering a more interactive and personalised experience. Beyond standard voice commands, viewers will be able to ask Gemini for recommendations, search for shows when they cannot recall a title, or get a quick recap of previous seasons of their favourite series. The AI can even provide reviews and ratings to help decide whether a programme is worth watching.
Gemini is not limited to entertainment-related queries. Families can use it for homework help, brainstorming ideas for school projects, or planning holidays. Individual users could explore new skills or clarify questions they might otherwise search for on their phone.
Importantly, Google has clarified that Gemini’s arrival does not replace existing Google Assistant functions. Traditional voice commands that users rely on will continue to operate alongside the AI.
The first rollout begins today on the TCL QM9K series. Later this year, Gemini will also arrive on the Google TV Streamer, Walmart on 4K Pro, Hisense U7, U8, UX 2025 models, and TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models. Google has promised that more features will be added to enhance the experience over time.
