Google Calendar has introduced a new option to duplicate events on its web version, and the update comes directly in response to a public request from Stripe co-founder John Collison. The request, made on July 5 via a post on X, asked for a simple Ctrl-click option to duplicate events — a feature commonly found in other calendar applications. Collison tagged Google CEO Sundar Pichai in his message, and less than six weeks later, the functionality has gone live.

Pichai confirmed the update on Wednesday in his own post on X, stating, “This feature is now live for everyone on Google Calendar on the web — thanks for the suggestion!” The feature allows users to easily create a copy of an existing event, which can then be modified without affecting the original. This can save time for people who regularly schedule similar meetings or events with only minor changes to the details.

The exchange highlights how public platforms like X are increasingly being used as a channel for product feedback, where high-profile requests can attract the attention of decision-makers. While it’s not unusual for users to tag companies or executives with ideas and complaints, it is rare for a CEO to respond personally and roll out a requested change so quickly.

Collison’s suggestion and Pichai’s swift response have not gone unnoticed by the tech community. Other users on X quickly joined in, some offering serious feedback while others took a more humorous approach. Box CEO Aaron Levie jokingly asked Collison to use his apparent influence to convince Waymo to improve its autonomous vehicle service along El Camino Real in Silicon Valley — a tongue-in-cheek nod to the congested traffic that plagues the area.

Beyond the light-hearted banter, the episode also underscores the value of seemingly small quality-of-life improvements in widely used software. Google Calendar remains one of the most popular scheduling tools for both personal and professional use, and features like event duplication can streamline workflows for millions of users. For organisations, the ability to quickly replicate recurring events without manually re-entering information can improve productivity and reduce scheduling errors.

This change is already live for all users of Google Calendar on the web, with no update required. It’s a reminder that direct feedback, especially when it comes from influential voices in the tech industry, can sometimes turn into tangible improvements that benefit the wider user base.
