Google has been betting big on bringing AI features to its Pixel phones. In the last six months, Google has introduced several updates to its Gemini AI assistant on Pixel devices, aimed at making AI features more mainstream. Here are six key AI updates Google has rolled out to Pixel phones.

Enhanced AI models

Google has integrated advanced AI models into Gemini, including Flash, Flash Thinking, and Pro. These models aim to improve Gemini’s performance, making it more responsive and capable of handling complex tasks. The Flash Thinking model, in particular, focuses on enhancing Gemini’s reasoning abilities by breaking down problems into smaller steps for more accurate responses.

Multimodal capabilities

Gemini Live now supports multimodal inputs, allowing users to incorporate images, files, and YouTube videos into their conversations. This feature is designed to assist users in brainstorming, organising thoughts, and understanding complex topics more effectively, said Google in a blog post.

Deep Research functionality

The Deep Research feature utilises Gemini’s AI models to conduct in-depth searches and compile reports on intricate subjects. This tool aims to provide users with comprehensive information, streamlining the research process.

Expanded accessibility

Gemini has been updated to answer user queries even when the device is locked, ensuring timely assistance without the need to unlock the phone. Additionally, Gemini now integrates with various applications, enabling users to interact with apps like YouTube, Search, and Google Maps through conversational commands.

Improved contextual understanding

Recent updates have enhanced Gemini’s ability to understand the context of on-screen content and the specific app in use. This improvement allows Gemini to provide more relevant assistance, tailoring its responses based on the user’s current activity.

User preference recall

Gemini now features a recall ability, enabling it to remember past interactions and user preferences. This enhancement allows for more personalised responses and continuity in ongoing projects, reducing the need for users to repeat information. Users can manage their chat history and preferences through the Gemini app.
