DeepSeek is missing this important data privacy feature and here’s why it is a ‘big’ deal for users

DeepSeek is popular now – globally. While the AI chatbot is a good tool and offers formidable competition to others, there’s one small but crucial privacy feature that the AI chatbot is missing. The most important part is that all the other rivals like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Copilot and even the recently updated Qwen Chat also offer that particular privacy feature.

We are talking about the “Temprory Chat” feature. And, if you are unaware, the feature – once enabled – stops storing data within its server and deletes it instantly after the chat has been closed.

DeepSeek does not have a way to pause data recording
This is a big concern here as DeepSeek does not let users pause the data recording temporarily and others do. For instance, ChatGPT has the dedicated “Temprory Chat” feature. Google Gemini allows users to pause the ‘Activity’ altogether. Moving on, the MetaAI and Microsoft Copilot also allow users to do this by not signing in to the account.

Its Chinese rival from Alibaba – Qwen Chat – offers the “Temprory Chat” feature and lets users pause the data history momentarily.

DeepSeek, however, does not have any such feature. You can’t use it without login and neither there is a feature like Temprory Chat. Simply put, whatever you enter into the chatbot to interact with, gets stored.

Things aren’t as bad as it looks
For better or worse, the feature isn’t there. However, the chatbot does come with the option to delete the chats. So you can go to the settings and then choose to delete the entire conversation from DeepSeek.

While it isn’t as convenient as having a dedicated option, something is there that does balance out the situation a bit.

Why it is a big deal for users
Not having the option to pause the activity recording can be a problem for users as the feature acts like the ‘Incognito’ mode for the chatbots and at times users simply want chatbots not to record things or simply keep it private. Having the option to delete is one thing. However, not having the option to pause activity on the go is something that raises privacy concerns for the chatbot.
