OpenAI has grown leaps and bounds as its popular ChatGPT has made a mark in the market by emerging as an AI model that is used by most internet users nowadays. Currently, the free version of ChatGPT is also advertisement-free so far, as OpenAI has relied on subscriptions to support the development of its tools and services. However, this could change soon.
OpenAI could introduce ads for ChatGPT free tier users: Key details
In an interview with the Financial Times, Sarah Friar. OpenAI’s chief financial officer (CFO) has stated that the company is contemplating introducing an advertisement model. She mentioned that while the idea of ads is on the table, OpenAI is also open to exploring more revenue streams in the near future.
Multiple reports have also indicated that the company has hired advertising experts from top tech companies such as Meta and Google. Currently, Open AI faces a cash burn of around $5 billion this year as it has to cover multiple employee salaries, high server infrastructure, and AI training.
However, advertising has become an important part of generating revenue for most top companies as popular social media platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook also use the same model to generate revenue. At the moment, OpenAI usually generates revenue through its ChatGPT Plus subscription service and its APIs.
However, as the company grows in the future, the need to explore additional revenue sources grows, and an advertisement-based model can definitely expand its monetisation options.
