Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is gearing up to welcome the 11th-generation iPad, which is expected to be released in the early months of 2025. Apple's suite of AI-powered features, known as Apple Intelligence, has also become a standout software addition to its latest iPhones and iPads. Now according to a new report, Apple Intelligence is expected to be introduced on the forthcoming iPad 11 as well with an older chipset.
Apple iPad 11 to be powered by A17 Pro chip and 8GB RAM
Previously, multiple reports claimed that the upcoming iPad 11 will be powered by the M4 chipset, which currently backs up the latest Apple iPad Pro 11th generation. However, now, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the iPad 11 is expected to use the same A17 Pro chipset as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This means that the device will become the second iPad in Apple's lineup to run on this processor, following the launch of the iPad Mini 7th generation in October 2024.
Gurman also notes that upcoming iPad 11 models, known internally as J481 and J482, are expected to be upgraded to 8GB of memory, which is necessary to support Apple’s AI (Apple Intelligence) features. Further, the base iPad 11 variant could include a storage capacity of 128 GB. The upcoming tablet could also have an improved display panel and compatibility with the new Apple Pencil Pro.
If Gurman's claims are accurate, then Apple might use a binned version of the A17 Pro with a 5-core GPU, similar to the latest iPad Mini. This approach could help the company by managing costs and ensuring sufficient performance.
