Apple is set to introduce its new AI-based iOS update at its WWDC 2024 event, which commences on June 10. Now, according to a new report by The Information, the Cupertino-based tech giant has secured a strategic partnership with Open AI to use artificial intelligence capabilities on its voice assistant Siri for iOS 18.
This partnership would also allow for ChatGPT integration into Siri for quick responses to users’ queries and behave more like a human. We don’t know the details of the Open AI and Apple partnership at the event, but we can expect more clarity on it at the upcoming WWDC event. Previously, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had also reported that Open AI and Apple are working on integrating ChatGPT in iOS 18.
Further, if this partnership goes well, it could be worth billions of dollars for Open AI. However, according to the same report, the strategic partnership between Open AI and Apple has alarmed Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and he also met Open AI CEO Sam Altman recently to discuss concerns over this agreement.
Although it appears that OpenAI may not directly earn from the deal, as there could be a subscription-based model for using Open AI’s services or charging users for ChatGPT usage. We can also expect Apple to encourage its users to subscribe to ChatGPT Pro for additional usage.
Apple’s WWDC 2024 event is also expected to provide more AI updates for Apple’s watchOS, iPadOS, macOS, and other tertiary operating systems from the tech giant.
