Amazon-backed Anthropic launches Claude AI on iPhone to take on ChatGPT

Anthropic, the US-based AI startup company announced its generative chatbot Claude AI is now available on iPhone. The app allows users to sync their conversations with a chatbot. It also lets users take or upload photos and use the app to analyse them. Hence, it has a similar functionality to the popular chatbot ChatGPT.

Anthropic has also promised that the Android version of Claude will launch soon. Anthropic was founded by ex-OpenAI research executives and is backed up by popular tech giants such as Google, Amazon, and Salesforce. Amazon recently revealed that its total backing of Anthropic had touched $4 billion.

The subscription cost of ChatGPT and Claude is comparable, as both charge $20 a month for premium editions. Voice chat and image creation are two key advantages that ChatGPT currently has, but Claude AI lacks these features at the moment. Currently, Claude AI is only available for US residents.

However, Anthropic has highlighted three key features of the Claude AI app on iPhone, which include seamless syncing with web chats, upload of any type of images for real-time understanding or contextual understanding, and free download.

Previously, Claude AI was only available through Anthropic’s Claude.ai website and third-party model libraries like Amazon Bedrock, Hugging Face, or Microsoft Azure. But, its transition to a mobile app, makes it accessible to a wider audience.

Anthropic also plans to roll out a Team plan this month, that offers access to Claude models to a minimum of five people in a group for $30 per seat per month. It will be interesting to see how it competes with ChatGPT, Microsoft’s CoPilot, or Google Gemini, who have their AI chatbots running for years now.
