While the company has not disclosed official numbers, former employees say the cuts were widespread, raising fresh questions about Vimeo’s future and the impact on creators who rely on the platform.

  • Vimeo lays off staff globally months after Bending Spoons' $1.38B acquisition
  • Layoffs described as extensive, affecting a large portion of Vimeo's workforce
  • Reduced staffing raises concerns over platform stability and creator content.

Vimeo is laying off employees around the world, only months after it was acquired by Italian software company Bending Spoons for $1.38 billion. While the company has not confirmed how many roles were affected, multiple former employees describe the cuts as extensive, suggesting a significant downsizing across teams.

Dave Brown, Vimeo’s former vice president of brand, said in a LinkedIn post that “a large portion of the company” was impacted by the layoffs. Other former employees echoed that assessment online. One video engineer claimed that “almost everyone” at the company had been laid off, including the entire video team, while another software engineer described the cuts as affecting “a gigantic amount of the company.”

Earlier this week, Israeli outlet CTech reported that Vimeo was laying off “most” of its employees in Israel. The latest cuts mark Vimeo’s second round of layoffs in under six months. In September, the company laid off about 10 percent of its workforce, just a week before Bending Spoons announced plans to acquire the video platform.

The scale of the layoffs has raised concerns about how they might affect content hosted on Vimeo, particularly creator-driven programming such as the comedy shows produced by Dropout, which uses the platform as a core distribution channel. Questions remain about whether reduced staffing could impact platform stability, support, or long-term product development.

So far, neither Vimeo nor Bending Spoons has publicly commented on the layoffs. Requests for clarification from media outlets have not yet received a response.

Bending Spoons, meanwhile, has built a reputation for aggressive cost-cutting following acquisitions. The company has previously laid off staff at several high-profile products it acquired, including WeTransfer, Filmic, and Evernote. Vimeo’s layoffs appear to follow a similar pattern, fuelling uncertainty about the platform’s direction under its new ownership.
