Virender Sehwag slams Glenn Maxwell-Liam Livingstone after series of flops in IPL 2025

Virender Sehwag has never been afraid to voice his opinions and this time he is taking aim at Glenn Maxwell and Liam Livingstone, two of the most well-known international players in the IPL. The former Indian opener criticized the duo harshly, saying they lacked the will and perseverance necessary to be successful in the IPL.

Following both players' lackluster IPL 2025 performances, Sehwag has voiced his disapproval. Both Livingstone and Maxwell, who play for RCB and PBKS respectively, were benched when the teams met at Mullanpur on Sunday afternoon.

"I feel like Maxwell and Livingstone’s hunger is gone. Yeh yaha holiday manane aate hai, holiday manaakar chale jaate hain. (they just come here for a holiday). They arrive, have their fun, and leave. There's no visible desire to fight for the team," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz, adding that the high standards associated with their international reputations have not been met by their performances this season.

Maxwell, who is renowned for his devastating batting and ability to change games, has had trouble finding his groove this season. Maxwell has been a ghost of his former aggressive self in the league, scoring just 41 runs at an average of 8.20 and a strike rate of 100 in six games. His bowling hasn't made up for his lack of batting impact but has managed four wickets at an economy rate of 8.46.

Livingstone's performances have likewise fallen far short of expectations. Livingstone's total of 87 runs in seven games, with an average of 17.40, hasn't justified his costly Rs 8.75 crore price tag, despite a few moments of genius, such as a half-century. Although he has taken two wickets with his part-time spin, it hasn't been quite enough to make up for his batting difficulties.

Sehwag noted that these guys lacked a sincere desire to make a significant contribution, saying: “I’ve spent time with a lot of former players, but only 1 or 2 really gave me the feeling that, 'Yes, I genuinely want to do something for the team'.”
