Speculations of Sanju Samson leaving Rajasthan Royals (RR) and joining another franchise following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season were on the rife. As per reports, he was even being considered by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to replace wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.

After a disappointing IPL 2025 season, some sources also suggested that Samson would be joining the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as their next captain. However, as per a report by Times of India those stories may be inaccurate.

The report stated that Samson would remain the captain of Rajasthan Royals for the next edition. The national daily was informed by a team source about the development. It stated that Royals currently don't have any plans to trade Samson or any other player.

“RR have decided not to trade Samson or any of their players for now. Samson is very much a part of the Royals set-up and the undisputed captain of the team,” the newspaper quoted a source as saying.

Samson has a lengthy history with the Royals. Since his debut with them in 2013, he has been a vital member of the squad. During the 2016 and 2017 seasons, after the franchise was suspended from the IPL for two years, he had joined the Delhi Daredevils (now the Capitals).

Meanwhile, both Royals and Samson had a tough IPL 2025. The season started with Samson recovering from a finger injury, which limited his participation in the initial stage. Riyan Parag led the franchise in his absence and after resuming captaincy duties Samson played only nine matches before he met with another injury setback. In those nine matches, the wicketkeeper-batter amassed 285 runs, which included one fifty.

Royals, on the other hand, also endured a difficult season and finished ninth in the standings.
