When will Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 resume? This is a burning question on most minds as India and Pakistan announced ceasefire on Saturday after days of cross-border tension in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 25 tourists and one local last month. IPL 2025 was suspended for a week by the BCCI on Friday and the day before the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned midway due to the conflict, which threatened to grow into a full-blown war.
Speaking to Indian Express, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal gave a positive response on the resumption of the current season, which still has 16 matches remaining. “Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL. If it is possible to conduct it immediately… We need to work out the venue dates and everything, and we would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved and find a way as to how to move forward. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government,” Dhumal was quoted as saying by the national daily.
Meanwhile, BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla said the best possible schedule for the league will be announced after discussion between the board officials and IPL Governing Council on Sunday. "The war has stopped. In the new situation BCCI office bearers, officials and IPL Governing Council, will discuss the matter tomorrow (Sunday) and take a call. We will see which can be the best schedule to complete the tournament," Shukla told PTI Videos.
As reported earlier, there were speculations of conducting the remainder of IPL 2025 in Southern India - Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. However, Shukla said such an option was perhaps relevant in the scenario of a continued military conflict.
"That was an option when war was going on. There are many options which have been discussed. The ceasefire has just been announced, give some time to us, we will discuss and then only a decision will be taken," said Shukla.

Meanwhile, the latest inputs suggest that matches will be held across the country and only the picturesque Dharamsala will be removed from the roster on resumption.
It also remains to be seen if the match between PBKS and DC resumes from where it stopped or is played from the start again. In addition, most overseas players have reportedly left the country.
