Digvesh Rathi has proved to be one of the positives for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in otherwise an underwhelming IPL 2025 season. The uncapped spinner is the leading wicket-taker from the LSG camp, registering 14 wickets in 12 matches. The spinner, however, has been in the news mostly because of his controversial celebration and on-field confrontation rather than his bowling.
For instance he was suspended from the match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Thursday after a Code of Conduct violation. Rathi was involved in a heated moment with Abhishek Sharma in the contest between LSG and Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this week, which led to the suspension. The LSG player committed a Level 1 offence for the third time this season, thus earning five demerit points resulting in a one-match suspension.

Despite his absence, Rathi’s presence was felt in the match against GT. The moment took place after LSG left-arm pacer Akash Singh dismissed Jos Buttler and broke out in the notebook celebration, which has been made famous by Rathi in this edition.
Akash came round the wicket and took the pace off the delivery to bowl a slower ball. Buttler was way too early into the push towards long-off and the gap between bat and pad opened and the ball crashed into middle and leg stumps.
Taking note of the celebration, LSG took to social media and wrote: "You can't keep Rathi out of this team". Meanwhile, the official account of IPL also shared the moment and mentioned: "Akash Singh signs Digvesh's proxy".

Rathi's joyous antics have drawn attention on multiple occasions this season. It all began with Rathi signing off on his dismissals in the air, sometimes by charging towards the player, as in the case of Priyansh Arya, before modifying it to signing on the ground after it was deemed inappropriate by the match referee.
