Hyderabad achieved an impressive victory as Pat Cummins and his team excelled, climbing from fourth to second in the standings with a 67-run win. Sunrisers Hyderabad set a new record by scoring 266/7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.
Travis Head, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Abhishek Sharma excelled for Sunrisers Hyderabad, reaching an enormous total in IPL 2024. Head's 89 off 32 balls and Shahbaz's unbeaten 59 off 29 helped SRH post their high score in 20 overs. Abhishek contributed with a quick 46 off 12 balls.
Big Chase for Delhi Capitals
Delhi faced a daunting chase of 267 runs and needed a fast start. Prithvi Shaw began quickly but fell soon, followed by David Warner. Jake Fraser-McGurk made the fastest fifty of the season in just 15 balls, while Abishek Porel kept the momentum going. However, after Porel's departure, Delhi's innings slowed down significantly. Tristan Stubbs and Rishabh Pant struggled to maintain the required run rate. Pant's lack of form hindered Delhi's chase, resulting in their defeat. This setback puts them back to square one after two consecutive wins.
Earlier, Delhi chose to bowl first, but Hyderabad's openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, posed a tough challenge. Head matched the fastest fifty of the season and helped Hyderabad reach 100 runs in 5 overs, the quickest team hundred in Indian T20 League history. Sunrisers set a record with 125 runs in the Powerplay. Head scored 89 runs, while Shahbaz Ahmed remained unbeaten with 59. Axar Patel was Delhi's most economical bowler, while Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets.
Jake Fraser-McGurk set a record
Jake Fraser-McGurk of Delhi Capitals set an IPL record with the fastest fifty for his franchise, tying for the third-fastest in tournament history. His explosive innings of 65 runs off 18 balls, including five fours and seven sixes, impressed fans with his ability to accelerate the scoring rate. Chasing 267 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Fraser-McGurk eventually fell, but his remarkable performance left a lasting impression.
Fraser-McGurk shared the record with Yusuf Pathan, Sunil Narine, and Nicholas Pooran, who all reached their half-centuries in 15 balls.
Sunrisers Hyderabad's batting dominance was evident as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma's 125-run Powerplay stand overwhelmed Delhi Capitals. Despite slowing down, Sunrisers finished strong. Capitals started well, scoring 88 in their Powerplay, and exceeded the required rate after eight overs.
