Cricket can be cruel, especially in the case of retired players, who have lost the touch of fitness, but are still raring to go for yet another time. A similar case was witnessed at the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) with the victim being Australia's John Hastings. The cricketer, who has now almost touched 40, represented the Kangaroos in all three formats - 1 Test, 29 ODIs, 9 T20Is.
However, the clash between Australia Champions and Pakistan Champions turned out to be an absolute nightmare for Hastings, who failed to complete an over despite rolling his arms 18 times. It all started with skipper Brett Lee handing the ball to Hastings in the eight over.
Chasing a paltry 75, Pakistan Champions were still 20 runs away from the win but what happened next was least expected. Australia Champions skipper Brett Lee then positioned near the boundary rope stood helpless looking at the turn of events, which also left commentators in disbelief. "He seemed to have forgotten what he has been doing," noted one of them on-air.

Hasting started the over by bowling to right-handed batter Shoaib Maqsood and delivered five straight wides. In the sixth attempt, he once again bowled a length ball wide of the off stump but Maqsood threw his bat and slapped it towards covers to rotate the strike.
This got left-handed batter Sharjeel Khan on strike, who smashed a delivery pitched up and wide right past the bowler towards long-on for a boundary. The extras restarted as Hasting this time pitched it short, which resulted in a no-ball due to height and it was followed by another wide going down the leg. This made Hastings switch to around the wicket as he finally managed to bowl a legitimate delivery, which resulted in a single in the form of leg-bye.
With Maqsood back in strike, the bowler delivered another wide, followed it with a dot, following which there was a single after the batter knocked the ball towards deep square leg.
The wides once again restarted as Hasting bowled three down the leg then switched to over the wicket and bowled a couple of wides this time away from the off stump.
This saw Pakistan wrap the chase in the fifth ball of the over and beat Australia win by 10 wickets. The win also helped them finish at the top of the table after the league stage.
