In Friday's Hong Kong Sixes match against Kuwait, Pakistan batter Abbas Afridi performed the unimaginable. Against Yasin Patel, the right-handed hitter hit a record-tying six sixes in a single over. Abbas continued to chase a target of 124 against Kuwait in the 6-over-per-side game, scoring a total of 55 runs during his 12-ball stay in the middle. Fans at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok witnessed an incredible show as Pakistan barely managed to attain the target on the last ball of the match after conceding 123 runs against Kuwait.

Since his appearance against Bangladesh in July 2024, the 24-year-old Abbas has not represented Pakistan. In January last year, he made his debut against New Zealand. A few selectors will undoubtedly take notice of his 12-ball 55.

Since making his debut, he has played in 24 Twenty20 matches, scoring just 134 runs at a strike rate of 112.61 and an average of 12.18. He is currently not in plans for the Pakistan national team.

Six-a-side teams and six-over-per-side contests make up the fast-paced international cricket competition known as the Hong Kong Sixes. Each game lasts about 45 minutes, and it was first organized in 1992 and approved by the ICC. All-rounders are crucial since every player—aside from the wicketkeeper—must bowl one over.

This season's competition consists of nine teams divided into three groups of three, with knockout stages coming next. The format, which is well-known for its high scoring and aggressive play, promotes clever bowling and dynamic batting.

Held in Hong Kong, most recently at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, it draws international talent and provides spectators with a joyous, exciting experience. The event was resurrected in 2024 after a number of stoppages, and its popularity is still rising. It stands out on the cricket calendar thanks to its distinctive format and lively environment.

Abbas Afridi's heroics will go recorded in the official record books as the ICC recognizes this tournament.
