Timings and Astronomical Highlights

On the night of the full Moon, a rare celestial event will occur. For observers in parts of the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Africa, the Moon will pass directly in front of Mars, creating a stunning view.

Cultural and Traditional Significance
January's full Moon is often called the Wolf Moon. This name originates from Native American traditions, symbolising the howls of wolves during winter's harshest months.

In Europe, it is also known as the Ice Moon, Old Moon, or the Moon after Yule. Yule was a pre-Christian festival marking the winter solstice, later associated with Christmas traditions in Scandinavia and Europe.

The full Moon aligns with significant festivals in Hindu culture, such as Shakambhari Purnima and Thiruvathira, celebrated in India. It also marks the start of the Prayag Kumbh Mela, expected to attract millions to Prayagraj. For Buddhists in Sri Lanka, this Moon is Duruthu Poya, commemorating Buddha's first visit to the island.

Lunar Calendar Alignments
This full Moon falls in the final month of the Chinese Year of the Rabbit, with the Year of the Snake beginning on 29 January. It is also significant in the Hebrew and Islamic calendars, marking the month of Tevet and the sacred month of Rajab.

Bundle up warmly and step outside to witness the beauty of the night sky. Let the full Moon inspire reflection and wonder as it graces the heavens.
