October 2025 is destined to be a special month for skywatchers. From the radiant Harvest Supermoon through to meteors that flood the highways and even two sprightly comets, it offers an unusual chance to witness many celestial spectacles. Whether you are a weekend warrior astrologer or just a fan of the starry night, October promises to delight the eye.

The Harvest Supermoon

The October's harvest supermoon out-shines even the sun and bathes skies in light on October 6th to 7th. Because it is closer than usual, this time it will appear bigger and brighter. This means the light given off by the full moon will take on a golden hue.

This lunar event is associated with harvests, the August full moon, for example, generally appears within an hour or so after sunset. Look to the east for an awe-inspiring show of lunar splendor.

The Orionid Meteor Shower

On October 20-22, you will witness the Orionids hit peak meteorite production. Twenty shooting stars per hour caused by debris from Halley's Comet. The sight of the Orionid shower is best obtainable under dark skies. With a new moon on 21 October, there will be little light interference as meteors blaze across the sky in all their glory.

Twin Comets: C/2025 R2 (SWAN) & C/2025 A6 (Lemmon)

October will also see twin bright comets rise in the east. On 21 October, C/2025 R2 (SWAN) will be 0.27 AU from Earth and may possibly become a naked-eye comet. Meanwhile C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) approaches within 0.60 AU and appears bright too. Best dates to watch them is any time around 20-23 October, during Orionid shower (maximum).

How to Make the Most of October Skies

October 2025 delivers a celestial feast from the glowing Harvest Supermoon to the swift Orionids and the twin comets racing across the heavens.

To make the most of it, head away from city lights, let your eyes adjust for at least 20 minutes. Bring along binoculars or a small telescope for added detail. A reclining chair and warm blanket will make the experience more comfortable. This month, the night sky is alive with drama and beauty. Take the time to look up and let the cosmos tell its story.
