The Draconid meteor shower will peak on the evening of October 8, 2025, offering an unusual meteor shower appearance. Unlike most meteor showers which are best viewed in the early morning hours, the Draconids are best viewed during the evenings, making it easier for evening sky watchers to see it.
When to Watch
This shower will be active from October 6 to October 10 and will peak on October 8 at 19:00 UTC. While the shower is active, the Earth will pass through debris from the temporary Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner, leading to meteors entering the Earth's atmosphere, which then streak across the sky.
Where to Watch
Observers should look towards the northern sky (specifically, the Draco constellation), where the meteors appear to originate. The radiant point is near the "Dragon's Eyes" stars, Eltanin and Rastaban. The meteors could appear in any part of the sky, but if observers face the radiant point, they should see more meteors.
How to Watch
To maximize your Draconid meteor viewing experience, find a dark area away from the lights of the city, give your eyes 20 minutes to adjust to the darkness, and enjoy the meteors with your own eyes. There is no need for a telescope.
The meteors might not occur in nice, neat intervals, but if you are patient enough, you will witness streaks of heavenly light racing and twinkling across the northern sky.
