China to Send First Foreign Astronaut to Tiangong – A Pakistani Space Dream Takes Shape

China has taken a big step in space diplomacy. The country plans to send a Pakistani astronaut to Tiangong. This will be the first foreign visitor to China’s space station.

China and Pakistan have strengthened their space partnership. On Friday, both nations signed an agreement to train and send Pakistani astronauts to Tiangong. The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) and Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) finalised the deal in Islamabad. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the signing ceremony, according to China Daily.

Pakistan has been relying on China for space technology. In recent years, China has launched several satellites for its close ally. This latest agreement will take their space cooperation to a new level.

Tiangong – China’s Rival to the ISS

China has been expanding its space programme rapidly. The Tiangong space station, orbiting 400 kilometres above Earth, is seen as a competitor to the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS does not allow China’s participation due to security concerns linked to the country’s military-run space programme.

China’s space ambitions have drawn attention globally. Tiangong’s robotic arms, especially the larger one, have raised concerns. Experts believe they could capture objects in space, including satellites.

China’s Future Space Plans

China is not stopping with Tiangong. The country has ambitious plans for future missions. Deputy Director of CMSA Lin Xiqiang recently announced China’s goal to land astronauts on the moon before 2030. This would put China in direct competition with the US, which aims to send astronauts back to the lunar surface in 2025.

China’s long-term plans include setting up a lunar space station. The country is also exploring habitable planets and searching for extraterrestrial life. With Pakistan now joining its space programme, China is expanding its influence beyond Earth’s orbit.
