Vinayaka Chaturthi in May 2025: Know Date, Puja Vidhi, Muhurat Time, Rituals and Significance

Vinayaka Chaturthi is a monthly Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom and prosperity. In May 2025, Vinayaka Chaturthi falls on Friday, May 30, during the Shukla Paksha of the Jyeshtha month. Devotees observe fasts, perform special pujas, and seek the divine blessings of Lord Ganesha for wisdom, patience, and the fulfillment of desires.

Vinayaka Chaturthi 2025: Date and Time

Date: Friday, May 30, 2025

Chaturthi Tithi Begins: 11:18 PM on May 29

Chaturthi Tithi Ends: 09:22 PM on May 30

Vinayaka Chaturthi Puja Muhurat: 10:57 AM to 01:42 PM

Puja Duration: 2 hours 46 minutes

Vinayaka Chaturthi is observed when the Chaturthi Tithi is active during midday, which is considered the most auspicious time for Ganesha Puja.

Each Hindu lunar month has two Chaturthi days. The Shukla Paksha Chaturthi, which follows Amavasya (New Moon), is known as Vinayaka Chaturthi. The Krishna Paksha Chaturthi, which follows Purnima (Full Moon), is observed as Sankashti Chaturthi. Although Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated every month, the most significant one is observed in Bhadrapada month, widely known as Ganesh Chaturthi—the grand festival marking Lord Ganesha’s birth.

Vinayaka Chaturthi Significance

Also referred to as Varad Vinayaka Chaturthi—‘Varad’ meaning to grant wishes—this day is considered highly auspicious. Devotees believe that fasting on this day and offering prayers with full devotion can bring wisdom, patience, and the fulfillment of desires. These virtues, as taught in Hindu scriptures, are the key to overcoming challenges and progressing in life, both spiritually and materially.

Vinayaka Chaturthi Puja Vidhi

Puja is traditionally performed during midday. The ritual includes:

  • Bathing early and wearing clean clothes
  • Installing an idol or picture of Lord Ganesha
  • Offering red flowers, durva grass, modak, and coconut
  • Chanting Ganesha mantras and reciting Vinayaka Chaturthi Katha
  • Concluding the puja with an aarti and distributing prasad

The timing of Vinayaka Chaturthi may vary by location due to differences in sunrise and sunset times. Since the fast is observed when the Chaturthi Tithi coincides with midday, some cities may observe the vrat on Tritiya Tithi itself.

Therefore, it is important to check local Panchang or a reliable Hindu calendar that provides location-specific Chaturthi timings. Vinayaka Chaturthi is a sacred opportunity for devotees to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha for success and clarity in life. Observing the fast and performing rituals during the precise muhurat not only strengthens one’s spiritual discipline but also opens the path to peace, prosperity, and divine grace.
