Vat Savitri 2025: Vat Savitri is a significant festival observed by married Hindu women, who fast and pray for the long life and well-being of their husbands. The vrat is rooted in the legendary tale of Savitri and Satyawan, where the devoted Savitri, through her wisdom and determination, convinced Lord Yama, the god of death, to restore her husband's life.

In 2025, Vata Savitri Amavasya will be observed on Monday, May 26, and Vat Savitri Purnima Vrat will fall on Tuesday, June 10.

While most Hindu festivals occur on the same date across India, Vat Savitri Vrat is an exception due to the difference in regional calendar systems:

• In North India (states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana), which follows the Purnimanta lunar calendar, the vrat is observed on Jyeshtha Amavasya. Interestingly, this also coincides with Shani Jayanti.
• In Maharashtra, Gujarat, and South Indian states, where the Amanta calendar is followed, the fast is observed on Jyeshtha Purnima, 15 days later. This form of the vrat is often referred to as Vat Purnima Vrat.
