Vaishakha Purnima 2025

On the auspicious occasion of Vaishakha Purnima, thousands of devotees gathered at the sacred Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Monday, May 12, 2025, to take a holy dip in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers. The day marks the full moon of the Vaishakha month and holds immense spiritual significance in Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

Vaishakha Purnima 2025 Date and Time

According to the Hindu Panchang, Purnima Tithi began at 8:01 PM on May 11 and will end at 10:25 PM on May 12. The moonrise on Vaishakha Purnima is expected at 6:57 PM, making it a spiritually charged time for rituals, charity, and meditation.

Pilgrims and devotees began arriving at the ghats from the early hours to perform Snan (ritual bath), which is believed to cleanse sins and bring blessings from the divine. The banks of the Sangam witnessed a sea of saffron-clad saints, women offering prayers, and devotees chanting Vedic hymns. The holy dip, especially on Vaishakha Purnima, is considered highly meritorious.

Apart from bathing rituals, fasting (vrat) is commonly observed on this day. Devotees abstain from grains and follow a sattvic diet, often consuming fruits, milk, and water until the evening puja. The fast is typically broken after sighting the full moon and performing Satyanarayan Katha or worshipping Lord Vishnu, who is believed to bestow peace, prosperity, and moksha.

Vaishakha Purnima is also significant for Buddhists as it coincides with Buddha Purnima, the birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha. Many monasteries and temples hold special prayers, sermons, and meditation sessions to honour his teachings.

With the sacred ghats echoing with devotional songs and the fragrance of incense filling the air, Vaishakha Purnima 2025 is being observed with full fervour and devotion across the country. Devotees are encouraged to offer donations, perform charity, and engage in spiritual practices to make the most of this auspicious full moon day.
