Ekadashi dates in 2026 are important for devotees who observe Ekadashi vrat to seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu. As per the Hindu Panchang 2026, there are two Ekadashi fasts every month during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. These sacred fasting days hold deep spiritual significance and are followed across India with strict discipline and devotion.

Observed under Vikrama Samvata 2082-2083, Ekadashi vrat is believed to purify the mind, body, and soul. Devotees follow fasting rules based on tradition and personal capacity, avoiding grains and cereals while focusing on prayer, restraint and spiritual reflection.

Ekadashi Vrat Significance in Hindu Tradition

Ekadashi fasting is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is believed to destroy sins, promote self-discipline, and aid spiritual growth. Scriptures describe Ekadashi as a powerful path toward moksha and divine grace.

Ekadashi Fasting Rules and Parana Vidhi

Devotees usually take one meal a day before Ekadashi, observe strict fasting on the vrat day, and break the fast on Dwadashi after sunrise. Consumption of grains, cereals, and pulses is avoided.

Fasting types include:
  • Nirjala (without water)
  • Phalahar (fruits only)
  • Water-only fast
  • Single light meal
Smartha and Vaishnava Ekadashi Difference

Smartha devotees generally observe Ekadashi on the first day, while Vaishnava Ekadashi may fall a day later. Devotees are advised to follow fasting rules based on their tradition and spiritual practice.

Ekadashi and Pradosh Vrat on Consecutive Days

When Ekadashi and Pradosh vrat fall back-to-back, symbolic parana with water is advised, followed by continuation of Pradosh vrat. This practice is well-accepted in Hindu fasting traditions.
