Diwali 2024: Significance of Lakshmi Puja
Lakshmi Puja is integral to Diwali celebrations, as it marks the arrival of wealth and prosperity in homes. The festival takes place on Amavasya, the new moon night, which is believed to be a powerful time for invoking blessings from the Goddess. On this day, families honor their ancestors through Shradh, acknowledging the importance of lineage and familial ties.
Lakshmi Puja 2024: Rituals
Devotees traditionally start the day by rising early and performing rituals to honor their ancestors and family deities. A day-long fast is often observed, which is broken after the evening Lakshmi Puja. This fast symbolizes devotion and gratitude toward the Goddess for her blessings.
  • Preparations for Lakshmi Puja: Preparation for Lakshmi Puja begins well before the evening rituals. Homes and workplaces are adorned with marigold flowers and leaves from Ashoka, mango, and banana trees, which are considered auspicious. A Mangalik Kalash (a pot) covered with an unpeeled coconut is placed at the entrance to welcome the Goddess.
  • Setting Up the Puja Area: To prepare for the puja, a red cloth is spread on a raised platform, where idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are placed after dressing them in silk garments and jewelry. A white cloth is also set up on the left side for the Navgraha gods (the nine celestial bodies).
  • Devotees prepare nine slots of Akshata (unbroken rice) for the Navgraha and sixteen slots of wheat or wheat flour on the red cloth for the puja. The Lakshmi Puja is then performed with full rituals, following the detailed instructions outlined in the Lakshmi Puja Vidhi.
  • Lakshmi Puja Muhurat: The timing for Lakshmi Puja is crucial. The puja should be conducted during Pradosh Kaal, which begins after sunset and lasts for approximately 2 hours and 24 minutes.
Kali Chaudas 2024: Date, Time, and Significance
Lakshmi Puja, part of the broader Diwali festivities, is not only a time for invoking wealth and prosperity but also for fostering familial bonds and expressing gratitude to ancestors. As homes illuminate with diyas and vibrant decorations, the worship of Goddess Lakshmi brings hope and abundance to all. This Diwali, may you find success and happiness as you celebrate with family and friends, and may Goddess Lakshmi bless your home with her divine grace.
