Nevada Election Results 2024 Live Updates: Trump leads Harris, voted still being counted

Nevada, a Mountain West state, is a swing state. It will award six electoral votes to the winner of the US presidential elections. It is also one of the nine states where abortion rights are on the ballot. No Republican nominee has won in Nevada since the victory of George W Bush in 2004.

In 2020, the current president, Joe Biden, won in Nevada with 703,486 votes against Donald Trump with 669,890 votes.  According to reports, 66% of voters in Nevada were white, 8% were Black and 17% were Hispanic.

Nevada will also see a fight between Democrat Senator Jacky Rosen and Republican Sam Brown to elect the senator for the next six years.

Here are the key developments in the state.

• Nevada’s first votes have been reported, about three hours after polls closed. Trump led by about 3 points in the initial returns. Much of the vote remains to be tallied, and a full count can take days to complete. In 2020, votes reported after Election Day narrowly favored Biden, adding 1.8 percentage points to his margin of victory.

• Kamala Harris is likely to win 45 per cent of voters aged 65+ in Nevada; Trump to win 52 per cent. Trump's share is down 1 percentage point from a 2020 exit poll.

• Nearly 14,000 Nevada mail-in ballots at risk due to signature issues, secretary of state warns

• Trump gains among Hispanics, white voters, and non-college educated, while Harris leads women and younger voters.

• Voters who are in line by the time polls are scheduled to close will be able to vote, despite the long wait time. In Nevada, no election results will be published until all polling places have officially closed.

• Nevada to signal a broader appeal beyond traditional Republican bases

• Around 49 per cent of voters in Nevada in the 2024 election were women, compared to 52 per cent in Edison Research's 2020 exit poll. 51 per cent were men, compared to 48 per cent in 2020.

•Officials expressed concern at the relatively high number of rejected ballots in two of the state’s most populous counties. According to state officials, more than 11,300 ballots were reported as still needing signature curing in Clark County

• 72% of voters in Nevada said they think democracy in the US is threatened. 26% said it is secure.

• 45% of voters said they had a favourable view of Harris, compared to 52% who said the same of Biden in Edison Research's 2020 exit poll. 54% viewed her unfavourably, compared to 47% who viewed Biden that way in 2020.

• 47% of voters in Nevada said they had a favourable view of Trump, compared to 48% who said so in Edison Research's 2020 exit poll. 52% viewed him unfavourably, compared to 50% in 2020.
