Former Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Faiz Hameed was taken into military custody, the country's army said on Monday, according to a report in the Dawn.

A Pakistan army press release said that an action has been initiated against Hameed in the Top City Case.

“Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd),” said a press release issued from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

It added that several instances of violation of Pakistan Army Act was also found after his retirement.

"The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody,” the ISPR further said.

The action comes months after the Supreme Court ordered an inquiry against him over allegations of "misuse of authority:.

Gen Faiz had resigned in November 2022, four months ahead of his retirement date. He was succeeded by Nadeem Anjum.

According to a report in The Express Tribune, the former ISI head was involved in many controversies, including the Faizabad Dharna case.

Moreover, former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif named Gen Faiz along with former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa as the main characters behind his removal through a Supreme Court order.

Faiz got a clean chit in the Faizabad Dharna case by an inquiry commission. However, the army decided to probe him again after an owner of the housing society accused him of illegally raiding his residence and stealing valuables, the report said.
