A suspected shooter fired multiple times towards the stage where former President Donald Trump was holding a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.

• The U.S. Secret Service reported that their personnel “neutralized” the suspected shooter, who is now dead. Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the bureau, confirmed this information.
• The shooter was firing from an elevated position outside the rally venue, with witnesses indicating that he was on a roof.
• The shots rang out about 10 minutes into Trump’s speech at a fairground 35 miles north of Pittsburgh. Secret Service members quickly surrounded Trump and led him away. Photos and videos showed blood on Trump’s ear and face.
• One spectator was killed, and two others were critically injured in the incident. The attack is being investigated as an attempted assassination.
• Trump stated on social media that he was shot in the upper right ear. He was rushed to a medical facility for evaluation, and his campaign later confirmed that he was fine.
• Law enforcement officials recovered an “AR-style rifle” at the scene of the shooting, as per media reports.
• US President Joe Biden was briefed on the shooting and expressed relief that Trump is safe.
• Thousands of people attended the rally, which was held just two days before the Republican National Convention begins in Milwaukee, where Trump will formally become the party’s nominee.
• As a former president, Trump continues to receive Secret Service protection. His rallies involve intense security protocols, with attendees restricted to carrying only small bags and required to pass through metal detectors upon arrival.
• On July 13, 2024, Chairman James Comer of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability invited U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to testify regarding the assassination attempt on President Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The hearing is scheduled for July 22, 2024, to investigate the incident where a Secret Service agent's bravery thwarted the attack, resulting in the gunman’s elimination and the prevention of further casualties.
